Change of mind – Dinosaurs and Pyramids

Recently I wrote a blog about ideas on how I would illustrate the fake moon landing but now I feel that I don’t think it will follow the style of my previous ideas. It wont fit in well I feel and will be a fair challenge to draw it all up without having to image trace stock licensed photographs which I want to keep to an absolute minimum.

So with my new conspiracy theory it is completely out of this world insane and was found under a list of the most hilariously stupid conspiracy theories (that people actually do believe!). This one really did stand out from the lot and I found it absolutely brilliant and thought it would go so well with my other stupid theories. The theory being is that dinosaurs helped build the pyramids!

It’s a complete WHACK theory but that just tops the cherry on the cake for my three illustrations. With this illustration though I don’t think I will be able to make it so interactive which I don’t mind as that it will give the pages variety of all sorts of viewing options whether they just want to look and engage in the illustrations or if they want to engage physically.

I feel that the pages I will be creating will be aimed towards young adults and will certainly not be aimed towards children though it may have the style for that audience it wont be. It will be like a drawing book for adults kind of thing, styled towards kids but actually aimed at adults due to the content, though it is not strong content it can give of a sense of brainwashing.

My plans for the 9/11 conspiracy

For my 9/11 conspiracy I’m thinking of having an illustration in the same style as my Reptilian one but in a comic book style. The aim is to have George Bush in one scene looking like he’s struggling to operate a remote control airplane. Within the other scene you will see the twin towers in the city of New York and a plane in which the viewer can interact with to bring the plane into the building or to divert it away.

This subject is going to be a bit of a tough one as that it is a touchy subject to a lot of people and I want everyone to understand and get this clear that I do not find 9/11 a joke and it was seriously disturbing and that I’m not trying to take the piss out of the whole situation.

I’m thinking that this whole illustration will be spread across two pages possible or it will be laid across one page horizontally. The reason being is because it’s going to be a slightly big illustration and the main part of the illustration is going to be focused on George Bush being the main illustration as that the city is going to be incredibly hard to illustrate I may design a collage like backdrop for this and bring in some photo manipulation skills.

With George I want a good impression on his face to show of an emotion of frustration and I want to give off a child feel to him as if he is a kid playing with toys like you’d see in a family’s back garden with a child playing with his cool new remote control vehicle.

Again with the illustration style I dont want to make it too detailed but still make it slightly realistic.

From this blog forth I am now going to start by putting these ideas onto paper. I will be experimenting with a few different layouts on how I’ll approach the illustration within Adobe Illustrator.

Metacognition Lecture

Metacognition – you’re aware of what and how you’re learning.

Close looking is extremely important into analysing and with analysing there is no right or wrong as that it’s all your opinion.

THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION – started a reaction for designers and artists back in 1700.

The guy may be a traveler due to his dirty shoes, his luggage and pet dog possibly. The dog may be a pub pet which is where they may be as in the top left corner there is to believe a pub sign. The woman/ barmaid is serving the gentleman a nice cold beer and he’s looking at her as if to say cheers. The image is lively and colourful. The calm before the storm.

There has been a murder in Great Britain as you can tell because of the text within the image and the clothes that the people are wearing. This image is very industrial like and looks as it it may be in a city. The image is taken from a comic strip like book. It was in fact taken from the front of a newspapers. The person who is laying on the floor may be dead but we are still unsure about this. The person was one of Jack the rippers victims.

There is either a steam train or a factory that is giving off bad pollution to our homes which are at the bottom of the image showing that bad things are getting into things we’re trying to clean like the laundry in each garden, they’re just getting dirty again because of the smoke coming from the train/ factory. The image is drawn from a high view. All the houses were packed to its limits, many families would cram into one.

This image is in fact a photograph, you can see this as that the detail in it is so great. Also similar to the last one it shows how close we are to such a great threat.

The quality of this image is a lot greater than the previous one means that it is in fact more recent. Still wanting to send across that factories are the source of bad pollution. The image is a statement backed up by anonymous.

In this image is a child who’s working at such a young age with a motive stating pretty much to start them when they’re young and to teach them a value of hard work. It’s changing the argument to make people think that this is a good thing. The children in the image look like they’re dealing with what they have to do and don’t look so stressed. There is a bit of a slavery vibe to this image. This image is looked back sarcastically. Children going to school started because there was a worry that children would take all the jobs.

This image I feel resembles hell for a child who is strapped up and helpless to escape. the person who seems to be helping looks very demon like and looks as if he/she is only doing it for their own benefit. It is very dark and is in a very dingy day of age within a mine tunnel which would make an individual feel very claustrophobic.

This image is again to show labour/ slavery as its an olden day sweatshop, you can see this with the tight spacing between each work station and how many people there are. It isn’t taken from England as that there are foreign signs though it still may be in Britain with more foreign workers than English. This image was taken from Germany.

The same as the previous image though all the workers are male, suited up in uniform and the place looks more organised. Not so sure when this photo was taken.

My ideas for the fake moon landing

With one of my other conspiracy theory being about the moon landing being a hoax I have an interactive idea for the viewers. The idea is to get an illustration of the moon that I would create within photoshop as that this illustration will be more realistic and I will need a good variety of brushes. With the moon I will make it overlap outside of the page and will be spread out across two pages so it will result to working on an A4 piece. The viewer will then be able to open up the moon to see what is behind it which will then reveal a film set with a director and his film crew giving orders to an actor on a set of the moon.

The illustration within the moon will be again cartoon and the reason being all of my illustration having this style I will go in to detail in a blog in the near future.

With this piece I believe it may take a while to illustrate the whole set so I may go onto finding a stock image from the web to use but I will make a final decision when I come to the time.

My plans for the Reptilian Elite

For my first illustration I want to make it look funky and funny, it is to be a cartoon and not a realistic illustration. Within the brief it says to make it as funky and wacky as possible, I believe that you cannot top this off with a realistic illustration as that you are limited to colour options and shapes. When illustrating cartoons you have a lot less limits and what I will do is I will most probably sketch an idea at first then work from a photograph as that I am going to be cartooning The great member of the royal family, the Queen!

The reason to why I have chose the queen is that she’s the most recognisable out of the lot and a vast majority of people think of the Queen when you mention the royal family. Though it may be a bit cliche I feel that this will give me a fair amount of options on how I am going to approach the illustration.

My aim for this illustration is to first illustrate a portrait of the queen and then take the same illustration and turn it into something nasty being a reptile. I think that I will include a fair amount of detail to the facial area but leave the details of her clothes out of the picture as that I want the viewers eyes to be focused on the face itself as that that’ll be the area that changes within the two images. What I would love to do is to have it on one page and as you move the page the image will then change into the other one though this may cost a bit of money taking into consideration that these would be getting mass produced but I will look into this printing method for the final outcome.

Once both the illustrations are produced I will look at options on how to present the portrait. I have an idea in mind as to having the portrait within a frame in a museum then in the reptile version of the portrait will have the frame unhooking off the wall with the portrait falling out of it’s cover and frame with the name at the bottom of the portrait “Queen Elizabeth II” scratched out to say “Queen ELIZARDbeth II”

This will give off a feeling that maybe the portrait at the museum was vandalised but asks the question “who vandalised it?” In matter of fact it may well have been the Queen or one of the members of the royal family. Also the holographic print effect would give off the feeling that it’s revealing the true identity of the Royal Family.

In my next post I will be going into my plans for illustrating my next conspiracy theory being that Bush did 9/11.

Conspiracy choices

In order to get started on this new brief I feel I need to look up a few conspiracy theories on the web to then start putting things down on to paper. Most of the conspiracies that I have found are mostly based in America which says a lot really! But I think I will be basing my illustrations on three or four of these theories that I have found below.

*From this point on none of this is actually my own words, referenced from different sources.

Population control

Since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention first reported the HIV/AIDS epidemic in 1981, rumors have persisted that the deadly virus was created by the CIA to wipe out homosexuals and African Americans. Even today, the conspiracy theory has a number of high-profile believers. South African President Thabo Mbeki once touted the theory, disputing scientific claims that the virus originated in Africa and accusing the U.S. government of manufacturing the disease in military labs. When she won the Nobel Peace Prize, Kenyan ecologist Wangari Maathai used the international spotlight to support that theory as well. Others insist that the government deliberately injected gay men with the virus during 1978 hepatitis-B experiments in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Still others point to Richard Nixon, who combined the U.S. Army’s biowarfare department with the National Cancer Institute in 1971. Though the co-discoverers of HIV — Dr. Robert Gallo of the National Cancer Institute and Dr. Luc Montagnier of the Pasteur Institute in Paris — don’t agree on its origins, most members of the scientific community believe the virus jumped from monkeys to humans some time during the 1930s.

Not since the JFK assassination has there been a national tragedy so heavily imprinted in American minds — or that has given rise to quite as many alternative explanations. While videos and photographs of the two planes striking the World Trade Center towers are famous around the world, the sheer profusion of documentary evidence has only provided even more fodder for conspiracy theories.

A May 2006 Zogby poll found that 42% of Americans believed that the government and the 9/11 commission “concealed or refused to investigate critical evidence that contradicts their official explanation of the September 11th attacks.” Why had the military failed to intercept the hijacked planes? Had the government issued a “stand down” order, to minimize interference with a secret plan to destroy the buildings and blame it on Islamic terrorists? In 2005, Popular Mechanics published a massive investigation of similar claims and responses to them. The reporting team found that the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) did not have a history of having fighter jets prepped and ready to intercept aircraft that had gone off route. And while the team found no evidence that the government had planned the attacks, lack of proof has rarely stopped conspiracy theorists before.

The reptilian elite

They are among us. Blood-drinking, flesh-eating, shape-shifting extraterrestrial reptilian humanoids with only one objective in their cold-blooded little heads: to enslave the human race. They are our leaders, our corporate executives, our beloved Oscar-winning actors and Grammy-winning singers, and they’re responsible for the Holocaust, the Oklahoma City bombings and the 9/11 attacks … at least according to former BBC sports reporter David Icke, who became the poster human for the theory in 1998 after publishing his first book, The Biggest Secret, which contained interviews with two Brits who claimed members of the royal family are nothing more than reptiles with crowns. (Picture Dracula meets Swamp Thing).

The conspiracy theorist and New Age philosopher, who wore only turquoise for a time and insisted on being called Son of God-Head, says these “Annunaki” (the reptiles) have controlled humankind since ancient times; they count among their number Queen Elizabeth, George W. Bush, Henry Kissinger, Bill and Hillary Clinton and Bob Hope. Encroaching on other conspiracy theorists’ territory, Icke even claims that the lizards are behind secret societies like the Freemasons and the Illuminati. Since earning the dubious title of “paranoid of the decade” in the late 1990s, Icke has written several books on the topic, including his latest work, The David Icke Guide to the Global Conspiracy, while operating his own website — complete with merchandise and advertisements.

Area 51

We may have Tang thanks to the space program, but who gave us such innovations as the Stealth fighter and Kevlar? Aliens, of course. Conspiracy theorists believe that the remains of crashed UFO spacecrafts are stored at Area 51, an Air Force base about 150 miles from Las Vegas, where government scientists reverse-engineer the aliens’ highly advanced technology. Fodder for this has come from a variety of supposed UFO sightings in the area and testimony from a retired Army colonel who says he was given access to extraterrestrial materials gathered from an alien spacecraft that crashed in Roswell, N.M. Some believe that the government studies time travel at Area 51, also known as Groom Lake or Dreamland.

The government has developed advanced aircraft and weapons systems at nearby Nellis Air Force Base, including Stealth bombers and reconnaissance planes. And the government’s official line — that the details of Area 51 are classified for purposes of national security — is only seen as further proof that the military is hiding aliens or alien spacecraft.

So  a new assessment has come into play just in time for the Christmas holidays. With this project it is part of the options portfolio meaning that what ever I done in the previous module within this portfolio I will have to work in the same way. In the previous module I had decided to take the illustrative route instead of the photographic route due to the fact that when I was younger I loved to draw and kind of grew out of it unfortunately.

Moving on to what the brief wants me to do it tells me the following;

The British Library is to hold a large exhibition called conspiracy theory, which explores how conspiracies- real of imagined – have shaped our culture and beliefs.

I will have to design an illustrated souvenir book to be sold at the exhibition. This means that I will have to create a minimum of 3 high quality images and that these images will be where my main grade will lie.

I am encouraged to think imaginatively and to make the designs and perhaps the book itself unusual and well thought through in terms of sparking the kind of excitement or dis belief associated with conspiracy theories. This may manifest in terms of my designs for the books format, layouts and images.

The book will also have to be reproducible at a mass scale so this will have to be taken into consideration. However it should still be able to be defined as graphic design. I will have to keep the page count small enough to be manageable and will most probably have the book in a size format of A5.

In my blogs I will be having to show design processes that I am aware of the role of an illustrator as well as taking on the role of a graphic designer and putting the entire book design together.

I will have to be sure and show evidence that all work produced is mine and none of it is reproduction. Though it does mention that I may use a small proportion of found images for collage or montage which I may use for backgrounds for my illustrations.

I will have to create research journals on how I have been working on my illustrations going through thought processes and developing techniques.

The evaluation

The visual communication/message of the piece met the need of the brief because I researched deeply in to how to help change the way people work for the good. I also researched on the specific subject which was food waste to get my mind in the right state.

I believe that my illustrations in this project may have been a bit too simple? Though I did back up why I made my choices on the simplicity of the images.

My strengths in this project were probably my decision making on the campaign idea. I feel I brung up a good idea with the whole wall of fame.

My weakness would have been that I didn’t experiment enough with my illustrations. In my next project I will experiment more with my illustrations. Also I feel that I may need to touch up on my pitching strategy.

I found my time keeping skills were pretty well set out as usual. I managed to kind of keep to one blog at least once a day.

I may have researched a little more. I may want to teach myself a little more on good quality illustration so I will be looking into youtube tutorials for my next illustration brief.

I drew conclusion to the project by gathered my research and analysed it. I had to relate the research to my project, how branding works and how it fits into design and marketing is a huge key to understand and is always changing so you’ll never stop learning new ways of type.

What I enjoyed the most about this project was the design part and also the brainstorming part of how we can approach a new campaign for a real life client.

I have considered the sustainability of my project process and outcomes by making sure the client can go forth and change the motivational quotes weekly and other changes if he’d like.

I have considered the ethical implications by not taking photographs of fruit because then I would have wasted them afterwards.

Overall I enjoyed this project a lot and I wish I had put more time into the pitch.
